About the UTR Pickleball Tour in Japan

  1. UTR—a prestigious tennis rating system based in the United States (represented in Japan by BearDown)—and PJF (Pickleball Japan Federation) have entered into a partnership.

  2. In response to UTR’s full-scale entry into the U.S. pickleball market and its rapid growth, Japan will officially launch the UTR-rated Pickleball Tour starting in 2025.

  3. UTR uses a proprietary algorithm to evaluate a player’s skill level on a 0–16 scale. Participants in the UTR Pickleball Tour can use ratings derived from match results to compare themselves with players worldwide.

  4. This enables players in Japan to quantify their skill level on a global scale. In tennis, the UTR rating is widely recognized and serves as one of the key benchmarks for U.S. college recruitment and study-abroad opportunities.

Pickleball already has established collegiate leagues in the U.S., including at the university level, and Japanese players will increasingly be able to use this rating system as a pathway toward pickleball study-abroad and university admission opportunities in the future.
